Dark Light

Your homepage is an essential tool for your business. There are many elements that are important to an effective web design, such as white space, font, colors, and layout, but the heart of a website is its content, not its design. Your home page should introduce your product or service to explore your site further.

What should be included on a homepage?

  1. Logo
  2. Navigation
  3. Headline
  4. Call-to-action
  5. Social Media Icons
  6. Photos
  7. Text Content
  8. Contact Information

Your logo should be visible at the top of your website. It is the heart of the brand and the identity of your business. The logo is a representation of your products or services and is a key element for customers to recognize your brand. The logo on a website often serves as a link to the homepage, so you want it to be in the header.

  • Navigation
  • If your website is rich in content, a search box can be a valuable resource. The navigation menu should be easy to locate with items to new visitors. The navigation area is necessary to give visitors an overview of the content, as well as to help them locate the information they are looking for.

  • Headline
  • A headline with a sub-headline or paragraph text should provide a clear description of your business and what you do or the services you provide.

This brief text should be designated as heading 1 (H1) for SEO purposes. It should also ideally include a keyword that’s important to your audience, such as the name of your industry or one of your most important service lines.

  • Call-to-action
  • The purpose of your website homepage is to get them into the pages of your website. A call to action (CTA) is a way to pull people to the inner pages, start the sales cycle, or at least initiate direct contact. CTA fields or buttons can be linked to contact forms, signup forms, or other pages on your website that provide more information. it’s a better chance that they will invest their time in browsing your website.

  • Social Media Icons
  • Links to a brand’s social media accounts have become a standard that visitors expect. It is helpful to include social media icons on your homepage; typically in the footer.

  • Photos
  • A photo of someone using your product or interacting with your service is preferable to a still photo of your product because the viewer can connect to it.

  • Text Content
  • Keep your content simple and easy to read and avoid industry jargon by being aware of your target audience.

  • Contact Information
  • Your audience should be able to contact you anytime. Encouraging your visitors to learn about your products or services often produces a solid lead or sale. Depending on your business, it’s probably a good idea to include a contact form or phone number not only on your “contact us” page but also on your home page.
